* More than 1,160 Iranian short films have so far been sent to the secretariat of the 5th International and 17th National Short Film Festival of the Youth Cinema, according to the Public Relations Office of the festival.
Of the 1,160 films so far received by the festival, 437 are in the "A" and 722 in the "B" categories.
Moreover, according to the Public Relations Office of the festival, some 508 short films have been sent to the secretariat of the festival form the provinces.
* Public Relations Office of the Welfare Organization announced that in a bid to promote cultural activities among the students supported by the organization, a competition on publishing bulletins will be held by the organization. Children and young adults in the 10-18 age group may send their works to the Welfare Organization by September 21.
* The 5th Basij gathering titled "On the Wings of Memoirs" will be held in Rasht on August 21 to commemorate the repatriation of the POWs of Gilan Province, according to the Art Bureau of the Islamic Propagation Organization.
* The Iranian film Two Women, by Tahmineh Milani, will participate in the 6th Sarajevo Film Festival. This film has so far won prizes from film festivals in Switzerland and Italy.
The film Children of Heaven, by Majid Majidi, took part in the 3rd Sarajevo Film Festival in 1997.
* A Mexican painting exhibition titled "This Is My Mexico" is currently being held in Bahman Cultural Center. The exhibition has been organized by the Mexican Embassy in Tehran and Bahman Cultural Center. Some 100 paintings by Mexican children are on display at this exhibition.
* The International Center of Dialog Among Civilizations is going to hold a meeting on Saturday, August 19. A theatrical expert Abdolhossein Mortazavi will address the meeting.
* "Research Model in Iran's Theater" is the title of a speech to be delivered by Dr. Farhad Nazerzadeh Kermani in the Mehr Hall of the Art Bureau of the Islamic Propagation Organization on August 20.
* On the occasion of the sad demise of the renowned sound recorder Roubic Mansouri, the Cinema House will hold a commemoration ceremony today at 18:00 p.m. Artists, filmmakers and several cultural and artistic officials will attend the ceremony.
